Vocal music term

Hi Larry,
I’ve been out of touch for a long while: moving frm Texas to Pennsylvania, coping with an outbreak of shingles, among other things. I am still doing occasional transcribing for Braille Jymico, Inc., in Québec from time to time.
My question is very simple and is not only related to braille: What is the term in vocal music for a line of music sung above the melody? I have wracked my brain for a long while and tried looking at glossaries on the Net, all without success.

I hope your 2010 has begun well and will continue the same…
