eLearning
Since 1945 the National Braille Association has evolved with the ever-changing world around us. The advent of online tools for education brought with it the ability for braille transcribers to learn in new ways. We’re continually pushing ourselves to find new methods for reaching those who prepare braille and to deliver the training needed to make high quality braille. Our eLearning products are designed to give you interactive learning experiences that can meet you wherever you are.

About The Learning Management System
In 2025 the National Braille Association launched the Learning Management System (LMS) with the help of a generous donation from Volunteer Braille Services in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The LMS offers our organization a new frontier to provide training to those who prepare braille materials.
This online learning environment allows us to take the materials we’ve developed to train transcribers and load them into an interactive software platform where users can track progress, earn certificates for completing courses, and access a wide range of materials intended to help you become a better transcriber.
Access to the coursework found in the LMS is a benefit of being a current National Braille Association member. Members can access the entire library of materials as often as they’d like. To begin using the materials, just login with your member account and navigate to the LMS.
If you’re not a member and would like access to the LMS, you can view membership information and registration forms here.
In Pursuit of Wayward Dots: Proofreading Skills
Even experienced transcribers can overlook common errors that affect the accuracy and readability of braille materials.
In this course, you will explore some of the most frequent transcription pitfalls and learn a systematic approach to identifying and correcting them. Through guided examples and practical exercises, you will develop effective proofreading strategies that help ensure your braille remains faithful to the code and meets the high standards expected by braille readers.
Whether you are new to braille transcription or looking to strengthen your proofreading skills, this course will provide valuable techniques for tracking down those "wayward dots" before they reach the reader.
Braille Formats Study Guide
The National Braille Association is the only producer of the Braille Formats Study Guide. This self-guided tool was designed by our Braille Formats/Textbook committee to help you better learn the Principles Of Print To Braille Transcription, 2016. The title has existed in print for many years, but we updated some elements and loaded an interactive version right into the Learning Management System. You can navigate through four sections of the guide with Braille Bits and quizzes, even directly enter braille into the examples.
