KeymasterMy student writes spanish on his Braille Note and he needs to use Spanish computer braille code. I bought the foreign language transcribing book from NBA and for some reason I cannot find the characters I need to show him.
Please advise where I might find a cheat sheet that I can emboss up for him.
Thank youOctober 1, 2009 at 2:48 pm #20045Chris Clemens
KeymasterHi Tina,
Look at Section 14 on page 47. The accented letter symbols are listed by language in alphabetical order, along with rules pertaining to the specific language. Spanish is section 14.20 starting on page 104.
Is that what you’re looking for?

KeymasterHi Diane,
I’m not clear on which book you don’t have. There are two sets of rules here and you need both of them. You need the NBA Interim Manual for Foreign Language Braille Transcribing and information and symbols pertaining to the Computer Braille Code, which can be found in Appendix C.3 of EBAE (English Braille American Edition, 1994 Rev. 2002)
Under BANA rules for braille transcribed in the United States, there is no provision for Spanish computer braille. What is the nature of the material you are transcribing? It would be helpful if you could scan and post some print pages from it. Without having seen your print material, I would say that the Spanish should be done in uncontracted braille with Spanish accented letters and the computer braille text in Computer Braille Code, with all symbols, the Spanish accented letters and the Computer Braille Code symbols listed on the Special Symbols page.
If your post is related to the first post on this question (the name of the person is different) and you’re asking about a “cheat sheet” for a student who is writing in Spanish. all he needs is a list of the Computer Braille Code symbols for the computer text.
Hope this helps. Please let me know if you need any further information.

KeymasterHi Joanna…and thanks for your reply. I am kind of confused with the spanish braille…i am ok transcribing it…and i do it in all uncontracted braille. I use DBT…so that does most of the work for me. But my student is trying to get her braillenote to print out the accent marks etc. when she prints it out for teacher correction. We figured out how to get the accent marks, but the other marks don’t seem to all work. I think we will try it again, and i will give you exact examples of what we are having trouble with. I’m so glad you might be able to help me…i’ve been searching.
Thanks Joanna,
